Carving Out Space for Equitable Collaborative Research in Protracted Displacement

Abstract Research collaborations between global north and south have a long history in studies of forced migration, discussions power relations such research relationships existed for time. We are two researchers working across the south–north divide, this article reflects on our attempt to navigate industry amid ‘Syrian refugee complex’. discuss carve out space more equitable north–south divide partners. unpack existing dynamics systems attached them, e.g. institutional constraints, funding regulations, budget restrictions, residues post-colonial dynamics. then reflect how these help maintain north’s hegemony knowledge production cycle. argue that collaborative can gain from reflective practice focuses relational aspects involved research. This be achieved through ‘friendship approach’ rather than ‘tick-the-box guidelines’.
